How to change a date on a PDF
Open the PDF, click “Edit this PDF”, click the date and type the new one. Overtype removes the old digits and redraws yours in the document's own font, so you do not have to rebuild the invoice, lease or contract from scratch.
Dates are the single most re-edited thing in a business PDF: an invoice that needs a new issue date, a lease with the wrong start month, a contract dated the day it was drafted rather than the day it is signed.
Rebuilding the whole document to move one line is wasted work, and pasting a text box over the old date leaves the original digits in the file and a visible mismatch in font. Overtype changes the text that is already there.
Step by step in Overtype
1. Open the PDF
Open it in Chrome or drop the file into Overtype. It is read locally on your computer.
2. Click “Edit this PDF”
Overtype switches into edit mode and identifies the real text on the page.
3. Click the date
A cursor lands in the actual line of text. Select the old date and type the new one.
4. Change the other fields on the same page
Due date, invoice number, reference — edit as many as you need before saving; each one is a normal text edit.
5. Press Cmd/Ctrl+Enter, then Save
A new copy is written to your downloads and the original file stays as it was.

- Will the change be obvious?
- The new date is drawn in the same font, size and spacing as the surrounding text, so it matches the page. Use the Show changes view to review your own edits before saving.
- What about a digitally signed PDF?
- Editing a signed PDF invalidates its digital signature. That is by design — a signature is a statement that the file has not changed since it was signed.
- Can I change a date on a scanned invoice?
- Run the built-in OCR first so the scan has real text, then edit it. Recognition runs on your computer with an English model and accuracy depends on scan quality.
