Overtype is a browser extension that opens a PDF and edits it in the browser on the user's own computer: real text editing, whiteout, redaction, shapes and signatures, fillable fields, fills in forms, OCR, and page operations such as merge, split, crop and resize. The original file is never modified; saving always writes a new file.

No uploads. No server-side processing. No accounts or sign-in. No analytics, telemetry, tracking scripts, or cookies. Documents are never transmitted to us or to any third party, and we have no ability to see them.

• storage — keeps your working copy, recent files, settings and licence key inside the browser's own extension storage.
• declarativeNetRequest — used only for the optional "open PDFs in Overtype automatically" setting, to hand a PDF link to the editor instead of the built-in viewer.
• contextMenus — adds the right-click item for opening a PDF link in Overtype.
• Host access — optional, and requested only when the user turns on auto-open or uses the right-click item, and then only for that site.

A licence is a signed key verified offline against a public key bundled in the extension. There is no activation server and no licence check over the network. Team keys can be deployed centrally by policy — see Overtype for Teams.

The working copy of the open document and, if enabled, recent files with small thumbnails are held in the browser's extension storage on the device. Users can clear recent files at any time, and switching the feature off deletes what is stored.

Two, and neither touches your documents: Stripe processes payment for Pro and team licences, and Resend delivers the licence-key email. Both see only what a purchase requires — for example an email address.
